How did your journey in Salesforce start? Tell us all about how you transitioned from a fresher to a top Salesforce Consultant?

My journey started with CEPTES itself. After completing my bachelor’s in Computer science, I was looking for a job. I received a call from CEPTES HR, who told me the role was related to Salesforce.

At first, I thought it was related to Sales and almost refused the opportunity. Then they explained about Salesforce to me and I decided to give it a try.

I was tested for my knowledge of JAVA, and I cracked the test. 

Following that, we had two and a half months of insightful training provided by CEPTES.

My journey started with the admin role, as previously I was into coding. While learning Salesforce, I realized I can visually experience my work, like every addition, editing, and configuration I can see in the UI. That was very intriguing for me.

After the learning sessions, we used to get tasks to comprehend the learning practically. That’s how we learned and practiced our Salesforce skills. 

With extensive guidance and mentoring and evaluative tests, I was brushed up on my Salesforce skills. 

After the training, 10 people were selected out of 20, and I was one of them.

That led to the beginning of my journey at CEPTES. Initially, I was working on internal projects only as customer projects required experience. Whenever I was stuck somewhere my colleagues and mentors were there to guide me and ensure smooth sailing for me. 

After getting relevant experience, I started working on client projects as well. 

Now I can confidently say that “Starting my Salesforce Journey with CEPTES is my best career decision someone can make”. 

Any advice you would like to give to the budding Salesforce developer who wishes to become Salesforce Consultant?

Whip up your concept crystal clear. Don’t think I should know Salesforce as I want to get a job. Start learning it from basic, slowly and steadily you’d be able to set your foot in the Salesforce Ecosystem.

First of all, start learning the admin part, master the basics and then move to the next steps.

Learn about the security, profile, permissions, sets, and everything important. It doesn’t matter if a person is very good at coding but if he/she doesn’t know the basic Salesforce things, their chances to land a Salesforce job decrease. So, for anyone aiming to be a Salesforce Consultant, the utmost priority should be clearing their basic Salesforce concepts.

Is it true for anyone entering the Salesforce ecosystem, mastery of the Java programming language is mandatory?

The programming language we use here is very much similar to Java but is much more straightforward than Java or any other programming language.

To some extent, a person knowing Java is at a gain.

However, the best part about Salesforce is that it is a no-code or low-code platform providing more diverse opportunities than coding. This incredible feature is exclusive to Salesforce.

Does the Salesforce ecosystem prefer the least involvement of coding or minimal coding?

That depends on the target of every Salesforce professional. If you can achieve anything without code then the client will be a lot happier.

So, the client mainly expects consultants to provide minimal or no coding?

Yes, not just the client but even as a consultant, we want to build the product with zero or less code to be more efficient.

Do I need to pursue any Salesforce Certification or Training to become a Salesforce Consultant?

It’s not like any training we have to do. It’s just a thorough learning process. That’s the crux. 

“You have to learn everything, not like you have to do any training”. 

It is good to have any certification. That qualifies you’re a certified developer.

Can you tell us the certifications a Salesforce Consultant can take?

Start with Salesforce Admin Certification.

Then, you can move to the higher level with Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I Certification and simultaneously to Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II Certification and so on.

In a conversation with Hima, who is working at CEPTES, shares her story with us. #1: How did your Salesforce adventure start?

My salesforce adventure began with Journey 2 Salesforce Program.

 

#2: When did you decide on Salesforce as your career option?

After a huge gap of 6 years, I wanted to start my career again as an Angular developer. In 2019, I chose Salesforce as my career option.

 

#3: What prompted you to choose Salesforce as your career path?

I saw that there was a rapid level of growth within the Salesforce ecosystem and even my brother is working as a Salesforce Professional. These things encouraged me to try Salesforce as a career option.

 

“Close to 3 million women have left the workforce because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many left voluntarily, while others left due to a sudden lack of child care or to manage virtual learning for their children. In addition, a disproportionate number of jobs for women have been impacted by the pandemic, and hiring women is more vulnerable subject to economic shocks and business disruptions than men and is still prevalent.”

 

#4: Tell us about your success story and how CEPTES helped you start that journey

I started out as a Java Developer. After a year and four months, I had to take a gap of around six years.  But later, I wanted to return to my career. 

However, with a gap of six years, I still did not want to miss the competencies.

So I, therefore, began working as an Angular developer. 

Then I got to know about the Salesforce Journey 2 program and I felt that it was a great opportunity to change my career for Salesforce. It was very exciting as I completed the J2S program. Then, upon completion of the program, they allowed me to contact employers in the form of employer connections. 

CEPTES offered me the position and I picked it up. I’m so grateful to CEPTES for giving me this opportunity to grow and learn. To date, I am very pleased to work at the CEPTES. There are so many roadblocks to my journey as a salesforce developer and CEPTES has always given me a helping hand.

A Day in The Life of a CEPTES’ Salesforce Developer

In today’s post, we’ll try to catch a glimpse of what a day in the life of a CEPTES’ Salesforce developer entails.

 This is the story of Parth – Senior Salesforce Developer at CEPTES.

 Parth says, “While applying for jobs into development after completing graduation, I developed an interest in coding for Salesforce solutions. I worked hard and soon earned Salesforce certification. Luckily, I got the opportunity to work with CEPTES, and that completely changed my life. I was soon on the clouds of success, earning, and job satisfaction, thanks to CEPTES. Initially, I worked under my seniors guidance for a few months. Let me tell you I learned a lot during this period – right from coding and learning new algorithms to learning SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS.”

 Here’s a quick summary of what Parth told us when asked how a typical day of Salesforce developers like him go at CEPTES.

 Parth gets up early, at the crack-of-dawn, takes a shower and gets ready, drinks coffee, eats breakfast, and then sets off for the office, which isn’t very far away from his rented flat. He goes to the office on Tuesdays and Fridays, and other days he works from home. While on the way to the office, he scans his social profiles (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and others) for the latest tech updates in mobile, Salesforce, IoT, AI, integration, and more. He utilizes this time for uploading some valuable information for his connections.

  1. He arrives at the office by nine and greets his co-workers as the environment is impressive at CEPTES.
  1. Around 10 o’clock, they have a meeting with the planning team. During the meeting, each team member has to update on the project’s status and deliverables for the day.

Parth says, “These meetings are crucial as usually multiple people work on each project. For example, the client might have asked us to customize their Salesforce environment. The manager, in this case, will check with the Salesforce consultant first if he/she can build the customization points & clicks. If code is required for the customization, a developer (like me) would be assigned this task (of coding). When the developer completes the task, it goes to the QA team for testing if the code matches the design specs as communicated by the project manager and the consultant. Now, this process may take days and even weeks to complete. Attending these planning meetings (scrums) is, therefore, a crucial part of my job).

  1. After the meeting, around 10 am, Parth starts coding (in the order of the top priority tasks) that must be completed. He loves the creative freedom that Salesforce developers enjoy in problem-solving as there are many ways to do it.

  1. At 1, it’s lunchtime, so he goes to the common dining area and pours his food in the bowl and plate to share the food with his colleagues (who are his friends now).
  1. After lunch, he gets to chat or speak with his client (whose project he is working on). Although this is not a regular exercise most of the time, Parth prefers connecting with the client to ensure that he and the client are on the same page.6.Around 3 or 4 pm, it’s time to do the other project’s coding (as assigned during the meeting). The CEPTES team is quite cooperative, and if you are stuck in any project anywhere, help is close at hand as seniors are always eager to guide and help their team learn and grow.
  1. Around 6.40 pm, Parth leaves for home – listening to his favorite music on the way to relax his mind.
  1. Parth reaches home around 7.30, eats his dinner, and enjoys watching his favorite show before sleep.
