Why is Salesforce PDO the Best Way to Start an AppExchange Business?

If you are familiar with Salesforce, most probably you already know about AppExchange as well. The online store comprises thousands of solutions ready to install. AppExchange is designed to support various key operations across industries and businesses.

Despite being so high in popularity, AppExchange is still a mystery for countless businesses when getting their app listed on it. Some even wonder as to what is the best way to start an AppExchange business!

This post will cover AppExchange and Salesforce PDO (Product Development Outsourcers) and why Salesforce PDO is the best way to start an AppExchange business?

A Salesforce PDO is basically a consulting partner & vendor having extensive knowledge in creating commercial apps for the AppExchange. The PDOs help craft the product, and you may rely on them to take care of your app’s marooned key areas as well.

Salesforce PDOs take care of all technical and technology-related issues, including 3rd party integrations, implementation, customized development, and technical configuration. You may count on them for the Security Review process of Salesforce. Quite like Salesforce consultants, PDOs also have tiers as follows:

  1. Certified Navigators
  2. Certified Specialists
  3. Specialist Navigator
  4. Master Navigator

Most businesses prefer hiring Salesforce Product Development Outsourcers (PDOs) due to the following highly compelling reasons:

#1: PDOs Specialize and You Can Rely on Them at Every Step of the Process

Since PDOs have already worked for several businesses helping them start their AppExchange business, you can count on them to be there at every step throughout the process. You can leverage their expertise to better handle your product development lifecycle and beyond.

It is great if you could bring the PDO into the initial phase of your project, so they can be there whenever there is an issue or concern (at a smaller stage) and prevent it from becoming gigantic and difficult to manage.

While Salesforce PDOs are highly savvy on the Salesforce tools, platforms, and solutions, it doesn’t imply that each brings along the same level of experience and expertise in your business processes. You must choose a PDO who has been there in the industry for quite some time and has worked for businesses like that. The knowledge of the domain, products, and services matters a lot.

#2: Conversant with the Security Review Process

Salesforce’s Security Review process is a difficult yet vital part of starting an AppExchange business. The process tends to be highly complex and can easily confuse a less experienced PDO or novice.

The inexperienced PDO may take long enough to decipher the cause of the problem, and finding a solution may appear a herculean task. That is why it is great to let the PDOs take care of this work for you.

The advantage of hiring a Salesforce PDO on your app development team is that these PDOs don’t leave the testers’ security aspect to take care of in the end. Rather, they make sure the security review is done throughout the process as prevention is always better than cure.

They’ll help you get an insider scoop on the product’s strategies, thereby helping you decide better and make your app a grand success when you take it to the AppExchange.

Why Could Outsourcing Salesforce Product Development be a Strategic Decision?

Salesforce Product Development Outsourcers

The PDOs (Product Development Outsourcers) are specialists in developing Salesforce products. They are a helping hand for you to get solutions into the business quickly at a lower cost.

Product Development Outsourcers are seen as a wide range of consulting vendors and partners with expertise in establishing commercial apps and other useful services like instructing, marketing, funding, or even selling your app. They help construct & design a retail app, take on specific areas (e.g., third-party integrations), or build up your development team.

Salesforce Project Development Outsourcers focus on handling all the technical cases related to the Salesforce app development, its integrations, specialized enforcement, or arrangement.

Even though the Project Development Outsourcers companies focus on the applied side of Salesforce, they can also work as a team extension for additional Salesforce partners who lack the mark of Salesforce development capabilities.

Modern Challenges Faced by Companies:

There’s a constant need to bring new products and services to the Salesforce platform for a business. The internal teams must work hard and continuously keep up with the competition.

 Internal Resources Often Faces Pressure

Often, the in-charge of the innovation projects in an organization –such as a Salesforce Product VP, or owner or Head of Product development spent time attributing whether or not they should work with an external service partner.

Why Outsource Salesforce Product Development?

The reasons are the following:

To Improve Company Focus:

After outsourcing, a small business owner can focus on growing their internal team, and your employees can now focus on the core work.

Leverage the Expertise:

The other experience and updated knowledge of the partner’s platform will bring benefits and points while handling challenges that are entirely new to your team.

Independency:

Your Salesforce partner has only one goal, i.e., the development of a great product. The partner will be unbiased in giving you advice as they will be free of any internal politics.

Change in Company Culture:

Partnering with an outsourcer can help change business and work culture by adding new fresh approaches and perspectives to the team.

 Reduced Time:

If you work with only an in-house team, the time needed to complete the task depends solely on your team’s capacity.

But do they have enough time to work on this project too?

What will be the priority of this project?

Will it affect other projects that are handled by the internal team?

The best option is Outsourcing Product Development, ensuring you don’t have to rush for deadlines.

Cost-Effectiveness

Another main reason for outsourcing is that it is cost-effective. If you successfully get the right provider who offers product benefits in the desired manner, you can divide your budget for the task.

Outsourcing is budget-friendly. For an internal team, there are additional costs of maintaining office premises, but when you outsource, the prices are reduced, and the only need is to clear the bill of services you opted for. The outsourcer company handles all the other costs, like team management.

Verdict:

The point is that even after having an existing team of technically qualified, skilled experts in-house, there are quite a several compelling reasons why you should outsource through partnering with an external Salesforce Project Development Outsourcers, which will bring in the most remarkable results and project benefits. AppExchange

Webinar Summary – Transform your dream idea into a successful AppExchange enterprise app

On September 02, 2020, Our CEO and Co-Founder Mr. Priyaranjan Panigrahy and Business Development Manager Mr. Bipin Agarwal hosted a webinar “Transform your dream idea into a successful AppExchange enterprise app” where they covered the roadmap from the formation of app idea to AppExchange, the importance of working with a PDO partner, costs, and timelines.

“It is my privilege to share whatever we have learned together for the past 10 years, with you all.”

Priyaranjan

“We are going to cover some interesting topics around Salesforce AppExchange, How the platform can be a gateway to success, how to streamline this entire app building journey, the roadmap and what kind of business decisions you can make, along with the role and importance of a PDO partner”

Bipin Agarwal

The webinar showed our audience that if you have a great idea that solves a particular problem within a specific industry like healthcare or manufacturing, it is a complicated process that can be complex. This is where Salesforce with its large community of nearly 200000+ users comes in, it becomes easier for organizations to have app reviews and hold demos for potential customers.

The various stages before an application gets registered are:

  • Ideation – The first stage
  • Validation – During this stage, PDO partners evaluate the technology, adoption, and business feasibility. This includes the cost of development, what percentage of the revenue Salesforce will share, and the bottom line.
  • POC + MVP – In this stage, the proof of concept is done where the biggest threats are identified before the application can be built. This ensures that the development stage goes smoothly without major hiccups. After POC, the next part is the minimum viable product, which is determining how much customers will pay for it.
  • Sales and Marketing strategy – Once the initial pilot customers are pleased with the beta, then comes the sales and marketing stage, where the best channels for growth are discovered.
  • Go-To-Market- During this stage, partners can find the best moves before going to market. This also includes building brand awareness and finding the right investor.

Further after interacting with Bipin regarding the primary aspects, he spoke about the 3 primary things to consider from idea to AppExchange and how Salesforce makes it different:

Business – CEPTES has devised a strategy known as CAP strategy, which is Category, Audience, and Pricing for authenticating the feasibility of the business.

“Once we are done with the basics of the business, we move onto the technology part, this is the beautiful part. I love Salesforce and that’s my passion, If you look at this platform, it is one which covers everything. Starting from your artificial intelligence, your analytics, blockchain, big data, IoT, and mobile, It takes care of your entire infrastructure platform” – Priyaranjan

Technical – Everything related to the technical aspects of the business, which is where the beauty of the Salesforce platform translates into functionality. From the cutting edge technologies like AI, IoT to analytics and mobile, everything required for app development. There are a lot of useful applications already available, like Chatter, some of which were developed without a single line of code. The platform is very versatile where onboarding of vendors or partners can be done in a matter of 2 or 3 days. Every module required for streamlined business processes is available on Salesforce.

“The platform has been designed in a way that it allows users to design business processes without no code or very less code, but if you are building a big application the system is built in a way that you can connect to any other technology using the Heroku platform or using proprietary software like LWC or Appx” – Priyaranjan

GTM- This is the 3rd and final stage in the roadmap where the growth of the product mainly depends on. PDO partners at this stage analyze the data like who has come to your application, search criteria, have they look at collateral images or video, have they signed up for trials, from which marketing channel they’ve come in, etc. Based on this data analysis, PDO partners will suggest the best AppExchange marketing program which will help your application soar.

The next and sometimes most important step is the security review, which without a PDO partner can take almost 4 or 6 months to get through. With one, however, the timeline is drastically cut to 2-4 weeks. There was also a presentation of cost overview for the entire project which can be viewed at the link below.

One of the key takeaways from the webinar is how CEPTES as a certified PDO partner helps businesses with guidance regarding best practices for getting listed. We have extensive experience getting internal applications listed as well as helping organizations get listed. This was a basic overview of the session, to get an in-depth look along with the interactive Q and A session at the end, you can view the recording of the webinar here.
